Remember that gorgeous tattooed mama holding her fresh babe that we shared the other day? Here are some more lovely photos of this sweet family. As told by the student midwife, Seana (who took that infamous placenta pic.)
“It was their first home birth, mama’s second baby and daddy’s first. The home birth was Dad’s idea – his mother was a NICU nurse and his father a medic during Vietnam. Mama was a rock star! Glowing, relaxed, just beautiful. During transition in between rushes she was picking through baby clothes, smiling, and telling us where to find refreshments downstairs.
Baby was born in their huge, luxurious bathtub. The cord was over 3 feet long, cris-crossed over both shoulders, and around the neck three times. After being unraveled, baby went straight into her mother’s arms until the cord finished pulsing.
Dad cut the cord and was handed his new daughter, the first time he had ever held a baby. Ever!
Mom hopped out of the tub, crawled into bed to nurse, and ordered take-out sushi. Labor was under 4 hours long, rock star mama.”
Here is the gorgeous placenta with its lovely, spiraled cord, and a cell phone picture of the cord outstretched.
