Breastfeeding Twins Photo from National Geographic

I came across this picture a few weeks ago and shared it on Facebook. It was widly popular. I’ve tried to pinpoint why. I think it’s because it is just so raw and beautiful. Something you wouldn’t see here (in the U.S). A naturally nursing twins at the same time, completely open and unhibited. It’s natural, flawless and inspiring.

I think people like this photo for lots of reasons… One is that it is just a well taken photo, good composition, nice light, etc. The other is that her skin color and texture is amazing and rich and there is such a broad expanse of it compared to the tiny little sliver of skin that is socially acceptable in western cultures. The other is that she is clearly so comfortable nursing twins without reserve in front of others, which a foreign concept in the US. Lastly, breastfeeding crossed cultural differences. Whether you are covered or not, the beauty and miracle of the process is the same.

Reminds me of when my little man was nursing on one side and my other boob would spray like a fire hydrant. I caught it as best as I could in a bottle, but it would have been so efficient to have another little bugger latched on. 🙂
